📜 How Tangail got its name
There are two theories about the name. One is that it comes from the local words 'tan' (high ground) and 'ail' (field ridge); the other that many tongas (horse carts) once ran here.
How to get to Tangail
Tangail is about 98 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 2.5–3 hours.
- 🚌 By bus: Tangail-bound buses from Mohakhali (Nirala, Jhotika and others), fare ৳200–300.
- 🚆 By train: North Bengal-bound trains from Kamalapur to Tangail station, fare ৳150–350.

A zamindar house with lovely colourful palaces, a pond and gardens; now a police training centre.

A beautiful mosque built in 1609 in a blend of Sultanate and Mughal styles; it was on the old ten-taka note.

A huge sal forest; monkeys, deer and Garo and Koch villages.

Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury's palace and mosque, now run as a resort.

Home of the zamindars known for 'Atiar Chand', with the historic Sa'dat College next door.
