History and details
The Madhupur tract is a raised red-soil area spanning Mymensingh and Tangail, once home to the country's largest sal forest. The forest was reserved in 1962 and later declared a national park.
The forest has capped langurs, monkeys, barking deer, jungle cats and about 190 species of birds. Inside the park are the Lahoria deer breeding centre and the old Forest Department rest house at Dokhla.
Garo and Koch people have lived here for centuries; there is a long history of conflict between them and the Forest Department over forest land rights. The Madhupur area is the country's largest pineapple-growing region.
