History and details
The Saha family's zamindar house at Mohera, Mirzapur, was built around 1890. The Kolkata merchants Kalicharan Saha and Ananda Mohan Saha set up a zamindari here and built colourful palaces modelled on Spanish architecture. The main buildings are Chowdhury Lodge, Maharaj Lodge, Ananda Lodge and Kalicharan Lodge.
During the 1971 Liberation War the Pakistani army attacked the house and killed several family members along with villagers; the remaining family later left for India. After independence the house came under the government and since 1990 it has been used as a police training school (now the Police Training Centre).
Well kept, it is one of the country's most beautiful zamindar houses; the huge 'Bishakha Sagar' pond in front, the flower gardens and the colourful buildings are popular for photos.
