History and background
One of the country's largest Buddhist monasteries, founded in 1974 with the support of the Chakma royal family. It is linked to the Buddhist saint Banabhante (Sadhanananda Mahasthavir), whose body is preserved here. At the Kathin Chibar Dan festival a monk's robe is woven from thread within 24 hours.
How to get to Rajban Vihara
In Rangamati town, by boat or CNG.
Rangamati is about 310 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 7–8 hours.
- 🚌 By bus: Shyamoli, Hanif, S. Alam from Sayedabad/Kalabagan; non-AC ৳800–950, AC ৳1,300–1,800.
- 🚗 By road: For Sajek, chander gari from Khagrachhari town (via Dighinala, with an army escort).
