Trip ticket
Two questions come up about every Sajek trip: what can you see in two days, and what does it cost per person? The answer depends on the size of your group, because the biggest cost is the chander gari (open jeep), which the whole group shares. This post gives an hour-by-hour plan and separate costs for groups of 4, 8 and 12.

Going to Sajek by train
There's no direct train, but you can take a train to Feni and a bus from there to Khagrachhari. Dhaka to Feni costs ৳330 in Shovon chair and ৳633 in Snigdha. On the Turna (11:15 pm, reaching Feni at 3:40 am) or the Mohanagar Express (8:30 pm) you can catch the first bus out of Feni and reach Khagrachhari in the morning. See all times on our train schedule.
Day 1: Khagrachhari to Sajek
5:30–8 am: Arrive in Khagrachhari
The night bus drops you at Shapla Chattar in Khagrachhari in the early morning. Have breakfast and board the jeep you booked; if you haven't booked one, bargain at the stand.
8–10 am: Dighinala and Hajachhara Falls
Dighinala is about an hour away. On the way, Hajachhara Falls is a 10–15 minute walk from the road. There's little water in winter, but the shady path is lovely.
10 am: The army escort to Sajek
After Dighinala, vehicles travel in convoy with an army escort, usually around 10 am and 3 pm. Times can change, so ask your driver in Khagrachhari for the latest. The rolling, twisting road is an experience in itself.
1 pm: Check in at Ruilui Para
Check in and have lunch. Rest a little in the afternoon, because you'll be up before dawn.
4 pm: The helipad at sunset
Watch the sun set over the western ridges from the helipad. In winter the air is clear enough to see far-off hills sharply.
Night: Bamboo chicken, a campfire and stars
Order dinner in the afternoon, especially bamboo chicken. Winter nights are very clear, and far from any city you'll see countless stars.

Day 2: Konglak, then Khagrachhari's sights
5 am: Sunrise on Konglak Hill
It's about 2 km by car from Ruilui, then a steep 20–30 minute walk. Bamboo sticks are for hire at the bottom. At dawn clouds or mist fill the valleys and the sun rises over them. Look around the Lushai homes in Konglak Para.

10 am: The return escort
After breakfast, check out and take the morning escort back towards Khagrachhari.
1–5 pm: Alutila, Richhang and the hanging bridge
Before Khagrachhari town is Alutila Cave, a dark tunnel about 350 ft long that you walk through with a torch. Nearby is Richhang Falls, about 1.5 km on foot from the main road. With time to spare, visit the hanging bridge at the Horticulture Park near town. Include these stops in your jeep deal from the start.

Night: Bus to Dhaka or Chattogram
Have dinner at a hill-food restaurant in Khagrachhari town and take the night bus home.
Cost per person by group size
A chander gari (Khagrachhari–Sajek return, with stops) usually costs ৳10,000–13,000 and seats up to 12. For two or three people a CNG (৳5,000–6,500 return) is cheaper.

Sajek by motorbike
Many people ride their own bikes to Sajek or hire one in Khagrachhari. A hired bike with a rider usually costs ৳2,500–4,000 return and carries two. Bikes also travel with the army escort. The road has steep climbs and sharp bends, so don't ride yourself unless you're experienced, and never without a helmet.
Sajek in winter: what to know
- From late November to February nights and mornings are cold, close to 10°C; bring a warm jacket, a hat and socks
- There are fewer thick clouds than in the monsoon, but at dawn the valleys fill with a sea of mist
- Clear skies make winter the best time for sunsets and stars
- The waterfalls run low
- December is the busiest month; book a cottage at least two weeks ahead
