History and background

This long beach on the Bay of Bengal in Banshkhali, south of Chattogram, is still mostly quiet. Rows of casuarina trees line the shore, red crabs scurry over the sand and a wide sandbar appears at low tide. A good choice if you want a calm sea without the Cox's Bazar crowds.

How to get to Banshkhali Sea Beach

From Chattogram city take a bus or CNG to Gunagari in Banshkhali, then via Bashir Ullah Miyajir Bazar or Mosharraf Ali Miyar Bazar by rickshaw or CNG to the beach.

Chattogram is about 250 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 5–6 hours.

  • 🚌 By bus: Green Line, Hanif, Shyamoli, Ena and others from Sayedabad/Arambagh; non-AC ৳650–800, AC ৳1,100–1,800.
  • 🚆 By train: Sonar Bangla, Subarna, Mohanagar, Turna Nishitha from Kamalapur; fare about ৳400–1,200.
  • ✈️ By air: Biman, US-Bangla, Novoair; one way ৳4,000–7,000, 45 minutes.

  • There are no lifeguards; don't go into rough sea or during the monsoon
