History and background
Sepoy Hamidur Rahman (1953–1971), one of the seven Bir Sreshthos (highest gallantry award), was born in Khorda Khalishpur village, Maheshpur. He was killed in the Liberation War attacking the Dholai border outpost. His village has a library and memorial museum.
