History and background
Barobazar in Kaliganj was a prosperous Sultanate-period town, which historians identify as the city of 'Muhammadabad'. Excavations in the 1990s uncovered many mosques and ponds, including Galakata, Jor Bangla, Satgachhia, Pathagar and Monohar. Khan Jahan Ali is thought to have passed this way towards Bagerhat.
How to get to Old mosques of Barobazar
At Barobazar in Kaliganj upazila; on the Jashore–Jhenaidah road.
Jhenaidah is about 220 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 5 hours.
- 🚌 By bus: Jhenaidah/Kushtia buses from Gabtoli (SB, Hanif, Shyamoli), fare ৳500–700.
Where to stay
The district town has basic and mid-range hotels (roughly ৳800–2,500). Government circuit houses and dak bungalows can be used with permission.
