History and details
In the haor region roads used to be cut off for months in the monsoon; boats were the only transport. To solve this, a raised all-weather road linking Itna, Mithamoin and Austagram upazilas was built and opened in 2020.
In the monsoon, brimming water on both sides with a black tarmac road down the middle — this view spread on social media and the road itself became a tourist attraction. There are several bridges and rest stops along it.
Experts debate whether the road affects the haor's environment and water flow; so elevated roads or bridges have been proposed instead of such roads in the haors in future.
Things to do
- Ride the whole road by motorbike or auto
