History and background
Tungipara on the Baigar River is Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birthplace; he was buried here in 1975. The mausoleum complex, built of red ceramic brick and black-and-white marble, has a library, a museum, the family home and a pond.
How to get to Tungipara Mausoleum
About 19 km from Gopalganj town; by bus/CNG.
Gopalganj is about 150 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 3–3.5 hours.
- 🚌 By bus: Gopalganj/Tungipara buses via the Padma Bridge from Jatrabari/Gabtoli (Tungipara Express, Sheba Green Line), fare ৳400–600.
Where to stay
The district town has basic and mid-range hotels (roughly ৳800–2,500). Government circuit houses and dak bungalows can be used with permission.
