History and background
A place linked to Sri Sri Harichand Thakur (1812–1878), founder of the Matua faith, and his son Guruchand Thakur. For the Baruni bath and fair on Madhukrishna Trayodashi in Chaitra, hundreds of thousands of devotees come from home and abroad.
How to get to Orakandi Thakurbari
In Kashiani upazila; by CNG from Gopalganj.
Gopalganj is about 150 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 3–3.5 hours.
- 🚌 By bus: Gopalganj/Tungipara buses via the Padma Bridge from Jatrabari/Gabtoli (Tungipara Express, Sheba Green Line), fare ৳400–600.
Where to stay
The district town has basic and mid-range hotels (roughly ৳800–2,500). Government circuit houses and dak bungalows can be used with permission.
