History and background
Folklore says Lohagarh village in Faridganj is named after two powerful zamindar brothers, Lauha and Gahar. Three of the tall maths (temple towers) they built still stand; many stories are told of hidden treasure.
How to get to Lohagarh Math
In Faridganj upazila; by CNG from Chandpur.
Chandpur is about 160 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 3.5 hours (by launch).
- 🚢 By launch: Launch from Sadarghat to Chandpur (the most popular way), deck ৳150–200, cabin ৳500–1,500, about 3.5 hours.
- 🚌 By bus: Padma, Al-Arafah from Sayedabad; fare ৳300–450.
- 🚆 By train: Train to Chandpur via Laksam.
Where to stay
The district town has basic and mid-range hotels (roughly ৳800–2,500). Government circuit houses and dak bungalows can be used with permission.
What to eat
Fresh Chandpur hilsa (buy it at the Boro Station fish ghat and have it cooked)
