History and details
Tetulia is Bangladesh's northernmost upazila; India's West Bengal lies just across the Mohananda. Kanchenjunga, on the Nepal-Sikkim border, can be seen with the naked eye from here when the sky is clear — a rare chance to see the Himalayas from Bangladesh's plains.
Tetulia's Dak Bungalow is said to have been built in British times (19th century) under the Raja of Cooch Behar; its grounds give the best view of the Mohananda and the distant Himalayas. At dawn the snowy peaks turn golden-pink, then white as the day brightens.
The chances are best in October–November when the air clears after the monsoon; winter fog and monsoon clouds usually hide it. In recent years thousands of tourists have come to Tetulia for this view.
