History and background

In 1971 Pakistani soldiers killed thousands of people heading to India for refuge in the Pagla Dewan area of Joypurhat Sadar. As one of the country's biggest killing fields, a memorial and museum have been built here.

How to get to Pagla Dewan Killing Field

About 10 km from Joypurhat town.

Joypurhat is about 250 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 5–6 hours.

  • 🚌 By bus: Joypurhat buses from Mohakhali/Gabtoli (Shyamoli, SR), fare ৳600–750.
  • 🚆 By train: Nilsagar/Drutojan Express to Joypurhat station.

Where to stay

The district town has basic and mid-range hotels (roughly ৳800–2,500). Government circuit houses and dak bungalows can be used with permission.
