History and details
In 1982 Sher Ali Sardar, a farmer from Panisara village in Jhikargachha, brought tuberose bulbs from India and started the first commercial flower farming. Seeing his profits, neighbouring farmers took up flowers too.
Now flowers are grown on several thousand hectares in Godkhali, Panisara, Haria and nearby villages, and thousands of families depend on it. Much of the country's flower supply comes from here, so Godkhali is called the 'flower capital'. A wholesale flower market is held at Godkhali Bazar every dawn.
The flower market is busiest before spring, Valentine's Day, 21 February and Victory Day; then the fields fill with colour and visitors and photographers come.
