History and background
Built in 1879 by Suryakanta Acharya Chowdhury, zamindar of Muktagachha, and named after the then district magistrate Alexander. Because of its iron frame it is known locally as the 'Lohar Kuthi' (iron house). Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi and Kazi Nazrul Islam are said to have visited. It is now a teacher training college library.

In the city centre.
Mymensingh is about 120 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 3–3.5 hours.
