History and background

In the early 18th century Raja Sitaram Roy built his capital at Mohammadpur and rebelled against the Mughal Nawab Murshid Quli Khan. Defeated, he died at Murshidabad. The ruins of his palace, the Dolmancha and the Ramsagar and Sukhsagar ponds remain.

How to get to Palace of Raja Sitaram Roy

In Mohammadpur upazila; about 25 km from Magura.

Magura is about 180 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 4 hours.

  • 🚌 By bus: Magura buses from Gabtoli (Hanif, Sohag, Dola), fare ৳450–600.

Where to stay

The district town has basic and mid-range hotels (roughly ৳800–2,500). Government circuit houses and dak bungalows can be used with permission.
