History and background
This palace of the Bhawal zamindars was built in colonial times. Years after the second prince, Ramendra Narayan Roy, was declared dead, a sannyasi (ascetic) appeared claiming to be him — the 'Bhawal Sannyasi' case is a famous legal saga of the subcontinent. It is now a government office.
How to get to Bhawal Rajbari
In Joydebpur town; by rickshaw from the railway station.
Gazipur is about 37 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 1–2 hours.
- 🚌 By bus: Gazipur/Sreepur-bound buses from Mohakhali or Abdullahpur, fare ৳50–120.
- 🚆 By train: Local and intercity trains from Kamalapur to Joydebpur, fare ৳30–100.
- 🚗 By road: 1–2 hours by private car or microbus (depending on traffic).
