History and details
Char Kukri-Mukri is a char that rose at the mouth of the Meghna at Bhola's southern tip. The story goes that when it first appeared there were lots of dogs (kukri) and rats (mukri) here.
From the 1970s the Forest Department planted a coastal forest of keora, gewa and baen here, now a wildlife sanctuary. It is home to spotted deer, monkeys, otters, wild buffalo and, in winter, thousands of migratory birds. To the south of the char, towards the Bay of Bengal, is a deserted sandy beach.
Being hard to reach, it gets few tourists; it is slowly becoming popular with nature lovers and travellers who like camping.
