History and details
Madhabkunda is the country's best-known waterfall; water drops about 162 feet down the Patharia hills into the pool below. Folklore says Gangadhwaj, king of Srihatta, received the 'Madhabeshwar' Shiva lingam here from a meditating sage, hence the name Madhabkunda.
Beside the falls is a Shiva temple; a fair is held for the Baruni bath on Madhukrishna Trayodashi in Chaitra. From the 1980s Parjatan built a restaurant and facilities here.
Near the main falls is Parikunda Waterfall, reached by walking a little way along the stream. Khasia punjis and tea gardens are nearby.
