History and background
After the 1946 Noakhali riots, Mahatma Gandhi walked from village to village in Noakhali for about four months to restore peace. When barrister Hemanta Kumar Ghosh gave his land at Jayag, an ashram was set up here. Today the Gandhi Ashram Trust runs a museum and various social-welfare work.
How to get to Gandhi Ashram
At Jayag, Sonaimuri; by CNG from Maijdee.
Noakhali is about 170 km from Dhaka; the journey takes 4–5 hours.

- 🚆 By train: Upakul Express from Kamalapur (Noakhali), fare ৳250–550.
